Artist Spotlight - Mosher

Meet Mosher, a Chicago based artist and muralist whose love of cartoons and comic books lead him to become a professional artist. 

How did you get started with art?
Obsessed with cartoons and comic books, I began making art at a very young age and have continued drawing heavily from these early influences. I was an attention seeking kid which meant I got into a lot of trouble. At the time I didn’t know it, but I think drawing was a way for me to channel my hyperactive behavior into something positive.

Are you self taught or did you have formal training? 
Self taught

How do you describe your particular style of art? 
Character driven pop art.

What do you do to help get yourself out of a creative block? 

The best way I’ve found to combat creative block is having a couple projects going at once. That way if you find yourself stuck on something you can switch gears and work on something else.

Also the fear of not being able to pay my rent usually helps.

What is an obstacle you've overcome that you're most proud of? 
Procrastination. I find if I just jump headfirst into every project with enthusiasm I’m less likely to get lazy or bored.

What's one piece of advice you wish you knew when you were starting out?  
Being a professional artist means running a small business.

What's one of your goals for 2019? 
Attending more mural festivals.
